The gaspergoo eluded me once again! I went out to the same spot as yesterday in hopes of landing one, however, I caught something unexpected. Todays bycatch was a 5lb 4oz Largemouth Bass, my second biggest ever! He came in at 20.5 inches long which makes him eligible for a master angler award. I hooked a few other fish that may have been drum, but one fish in particular hit my swimbait as I was letting it drift in the current and had to be at least 10lbs+. This fish was so fast that it darted from one side of the river to the other and back in seconds. Unfortunately I lost him after some monstrous head shakes. My best guess is that it was either a carp that ate my swimbait or possibly a musky?!

The Salmon River was a bust yesterday so I decided to change up locations and tactics to try and target the elusive gaspergoo (freshwater drum), and elusive it was. I hooked at least 5 of them and lost each one. I hooked one on a swimbait that was probably 7-8 pounds and fought it for a while before it came off. I also brought one to my feet and almost grabbed it before it took off and pulled the hooks out. Despite the struggle to land a gaspergoo, I was able to land a few really nice fish. The first was a beautiful 5.25lb Walleye that bit my swimbait as I was jigging it off the bottom. The next was a really cool melanistic channel catfish that ate the jighead nightcrawler. The last was another stud Walleye that came in at 5lbs even. Overall it was a very successful fishing session even though I got rained on the entire time.
