Ryan Jones At Elkhorn Creek
Part 2 of my West Virginia trip. Fished Elkhorn Creek. After doing research, I've seen youtube videos and read articles about monster wild browns being caught here, some in the 30" range. The first day of fishing was horrible, as it rained for 2 days before. You could not see 1 inch into the creek. I streamer fished for an hour and gave up because visibility was so bad. The 2nd day started off pretty rough. I had tied some p-tails and hares ears because I lost my nymph box. I missed one fish first thing, and then it was a few hours until I missed the 2nd fish. About 4 hours in, I got snagged in a bush and my fly line snapped. I was a out ready to give up, but decided to retrieve my tangled rig and fish the pool. It was an excellent decision, because I caught 2 rainbows in that same pool on the p-tail that was hanging in the bush. The one was extremly acrobatic, jumping multiple times and fighting like a bass on the 3 weight. I missed another rainbow in the same pool, and kept walking up. I fished until dark with no more luck, but was a nice day of fishing. Hopefully will be back next year, but i'm heading back up to Vermont after an awsome summer
