Mad River

Tried a spot on the pine River that looked really good on Gmaps but it was terrible. The water had a weird gray color to it and I couldnt get a single trout out of a super promising spot. Unfortunately I couldn't even keep going due to a long run that was at least 5ft deep with no good way around Ended up going the nearby Mad River to check it out. Not great either. Lots of shallow stretches followed by super slow deep pools. There were some rainbows that look kind of pale and lots of chubs & shiners. I could imagine steelhead could stack up in the numerous deep pools. Broke the tip of my 4wt pretty early on trying to clear a snag. I think it was damaged from being hit with my nymphs a few times. Luckily I had my Mizuchi with me so I carried on. Nymphing with tenkara landed me a lot more fish anyway. There was a swamp above the river too, I wonder if there are any fish there. My blood's too popular with skeeters to try and fish it 😆
