Napanee River

Apologies for the pretty mediocre quality and distance, but hopefully the story behind these photos will help. Unlike the other posts, the photo themselves were done by my aunt (and was on the rush, due to the mouth bleeding). Basically took place surprisingly one day later from the Colonel By Lake Trip (and yes, it was all in one overnight fishing trip). On the way home with stop overs, went picnicking by the Napanee River. Pre-Rain Fishing wasn’t too grand or anything, then by surprise, heavy rain was summoned without warning (yes, the forecast apps never helped with that situation at all) as you see in the video. Thankfully, it did not completely cancel out our fishing. As it clears and became sunny, went back to that good old dropshot rig (again, like the largie from a day ago) and casted near the bridge. Turns out, finally land my new PB smallie! Funny enough, I have not caught a decent size one since 2018 (6 years ago) back in Muskoka. And another thing to note is that it surprisingly fought way harder than that 3 pound largie (despite being a bit smaller). Due to bleeding, I had no choice but to rush with very little pictures and measurements as quick as possible before release. Thankfully, it made it out just fine and swam away strong. Sadly lost another one before landing… Overall, I am not sure if it was a fluke, the structure, rig or the Post-Rain situation. One thing to note is a lot of hits (and some attempts) were made during the time there. Hopefully next time, I’ll try to take a better quality photo for big smallies (or who knows, a piggy may be next). Stay tuned everyone!
