Frank is as sad as I am that we don't have a picture of the Spotted Bass caught yesterday. It was my first time fishing in swiftwater, so I was glad to have caught something, so to speak! The little guy struck hard and jumped out of the water as I was reeling it back in upstream. Got hold of it, and the next thing I knew, boom, gone, just like that. Didn't get another bite the rest of the afternoon I was there, but I did manage to lose three setups, two to the rocks and one that ever popular cast into the trees 🤬. This was a tough area to fish in the rocks downstream were notorious for snags. It was a great location, not too hard to get to in a nice sand bar to wade out without having to wear waders. I'm not into fly fishing, yet. I think perhaps next time I'll use a bobber to keep my gear off the bottom. I'm also thinking that poppers might be a good choice to just float them downstream a bit and see what hits. Glad for any suggestions on what works. The area I was fishing was about a mile and a half above factory falls, about a hundred yard hike from the kayak launch point.
