Boyd Lake

After the previous days adventure (see my last 2 posts) I would have slept in a bit more, but my daughter had an early track meet. The great news is she PR’d in the 2 mile. I then had some time to kill before picking up my son from drivers ed, so I hit Boyd lake. The wind went from 0 to 30 in about 10 minutes which made kayak fishing a bit tough. Caught a decent white bass. Gary Hornsby H$K I got ‘em on the white pearl super fluke.

Daddy daughter fishing date. Took my youngest out in the tandem kayak for a couple hours at Boyd lake before heading to an older daughter’s track meet. We caught 7 trout, 3 of which showed subtle throat marks indicating they are cutbows. The others might have been rainbows, or perhaps more likely cutbows that weren’t showing any traits yet. Kept some for the family to eat. She said it was the “best day of fishing ever”!

Stayed closer to the launch point and spent more time targeting fish rather than covering water. I spent over half my time specifically targeting walleye but I couldn’t get them to bite. Maybe if I’d spent all my time working the walleye I could have caught one, or maybe not. I decided I’d rather be catching fish, so I went for trout (or whatever else might bite) and caught and released 8 rainbow trout. Nice session before heading to my kids track meet.

First time fishing Boyd from the kayak. I used to windsurf here quite a bit. Caught 8 trout and 1 white bass. I may go back and try targeting walleye.
