Elkhorn Creek

I've fished Elkhorn Creek much further upstream and had success on wild brook trout. I explored the lower reaches this morning and wasn't sure what to expect. While it is quite small and doesn't have a lot of flow this time of year, it does support a healthy trout population. The water is shallow and the pools are small, so a bit of stealth is required to avoid spooking the fish. I landed 4 trout total: 1 brown and 3 rainbows. For such a small creek, the trout were bigger than I'd anticipate. I usually don't measure fish, but I'd estimate the finale was around 14 inches. I actually scouted it on my way up the creek and was able to entice a strike as I returned downstream. #catch24
