Recent Catches At Sky Pond

Eric Holmlund
Skied to icefish Sky Pond, Lake of Glass, and The Loch Vale. Had success in all three lakes with an awesome 17 fish day. Sky Pond was slick, windy, and had about 3 feet of ice. I caught 4 little brook trout there. Lake of Glass had about 2 feet of ice, and it’s where I found the best bite, landing 10 beautiful little cutthroat trout. The Loch was about 20 inches of ice, and I caught 3 cutthroats as the sun set. Come to think of it, I experienced sunsets on all three lakes as I chased the daylight downhill. My new skis were great. I broke another ski pole (an old one this time) near the top. I got more than my money’s worth out of those poles, but having one pole on the descent was annoying. As always (unless it’s a whiteout) the scenery up there is about as good as it gets on this earth. The hardest part of this excursion is not posting 100 photos. If you go - know the RMNP regs, and know that this is legit winter backcountry which requires some knowledge and ability.

Fishing with Lance
An amazing day. Over 40 fish landed. Some very fat for alpine country plus a catch and cook. I’ll never grow tired of these high country adventures. Follow me on YouTube @ Fishing with Lance for full videos.

Fishing with Lance
What an amazing day at this alpine lake. I caught somewhere between 50 and 75 today. Just a blast once I figured them out. #baitnwin

Fishing with Lance
The days where it’s just an instant cast and catch are amazing. What a glorious day at another alpine lake! #baitnwin
