I enjoy fishing for Crappie year round; however a lot more species of fish like the live minnow also. I catch most of these at or around 2.5 ft deep. Or throw my line out the back of the boat @ low speed @ 4 ft from the cork to hook & troll around, sometimes the big boys like action according to the time of the year. The Gee Pond deepest point is 14 ft & shallow around 4 ft & is 150 acres under cypress trees. I use a #2 Black Hawk double action hook with a weighted cork & small led about 1 ft up from my hook from Wal Mart. It makes a big difference when trying to catch the slabs/hogs on how quick it sinks. We rarely catch nothing under 10 inches. I guess it scares the small one off. Most importantly don't take a weak rod, I fish with a 7 ft rod with open face reels. As far as brands, we realy havent payed attention to that, but nothing too cheap. We catch mud/black fish/alligator ghars & suckers all the time up to 4ft long & they will tear up your reel & rods if you go lite. Thats what happens in my neck the woods. If your interested in fishing @ the Gee Pond search for it on FB, there's a page up & if no response, please contact me & I'll get you in contact with the owner. (Private Pond). Happy Fishing Team!!
