Rantoul Retention Pond

First fish of the year! Wasn't very big but was worth getting out of the house for!

What a catch! After having missed something similar in size I assume earlier in the day, this one was tough to bring in as it had vegetation with it. Figured I'd try to tire it out then bring it in. It hit so hard, the drag, set to the limit, started to squeal.

Who needs a fancy, expensive set up to catch big bass? I didn’t have anything with me to weigh or measure, but definitely my new PB. 6ish lbs ?

Caught around 20 tiny bass and 3 smaller crappie. This was my best catch, very nice bluegill.

Awesome day close to 50 fish, I lost count. Just a public retention pond. Could have had 12 keeper crappie if I was keeping fish today. You can zoom on pic of the big crappie and see what lure I was using. Never changed, only flipped it over at one point. It retires a hero.

Discovered a new favorite lure before i broke it off. 9 overall this morning before the storms hit.

Had about 30 mins left to fish after i finished my Christmas shopping before wife needed me home. Caught 5 good ones on my Zebco 33 micro. All from the same spot. All around this size just took the one pic. Both black and white ones.

Gave up on bass early and was rewarded with nice bluegill bite this morning.
