First let me start by saying last night I stayed up late cleaning fish so I wouldn’t have that chore to tackle as I write this post. I woke up at 5am again to head out west along Hwy 90 to Houma, La. I got to my favorite bait place along Hwy 56 and drove back around because the Robertson canal bridge is still under construction. Pulled up to the spot around 7ish and there were two other fishermen already in the water. I noticed they had no live shrimp and was throwing plastics and market under corks, so I tried the same thing with live shrimp and I had no luck. The current was too strong it would not keep my cork still enough for the fish to take the bait. I tried to slow the cork down with weighted plastics with live shrimp and still no luck. So I went back to the technique I knew produced results, a drop shot with a 1 oz weight. And the trout did not stop biting until 12:30 ish. Those other two guys left because they were tired of watching me pull trout after trout up in between the two of them. I think I will make a sliding cork for the next trip to see if I can get a trout bite on the cork. The next trip might be the last one for the year because I have enough trout, I gave all the other species away.

I woke up at 5:15 am to drive to Houma, Louisiana to get some fishing done. The day before I received my order of the most talked about Power Prawn Jr. with a few new hooks to try. As the sun started to peek over the horizon we arrived at the only live bait near the Robertson Bridge only to find out that the bridge won’t be operational until October 24. My corks didn’t hit the water until 8am. The winds claimed to blow around 13mph, but it felt gusty at 20ish. First keeper fish didn’t land until 11 ish, and it was on. The smallest speck might have been 16 inches, then we found a few sheepsheads and drum. Then the reds came out of nowhere 16 +, caught our limits. So we went back looking for trout, by this time I was out of live shrimp. I pull out a new weighted hook by Hoss and put on a Power Prawn Jr. and dipped the tail in some chartreuse bait paint. It was then that my cork started pulling in 18 inch trouts back to back until the sun went under and the mosquitoes started to make a horrific appearance. I wrote all of this to say get out there and do some fishing when you have time, and when you get on them stay on them until you’re done.
