Checked out a new spot for smallies this morning. Found a few and made plans to come back when the water temps start falling. We've had an unseasonably warm September in northern MN. Still in a summer pattern.

NEW SPECIES!! First ever Smallmouth! 14.75" This was actually the catch that won me a prize on www.theCastnCrew.com so probably my new favorite species 😁 . It has this really unique color to it, I really love it. This peppered tan-green color that fades to a peppered light gray belly. And red eyes like a Rock Bass! So unique. No line of spots on its side like a largie. And notice that the side of the jaw does not come beyond the eyes like a largemouth jaw does. So, got to mark smallmouths off my list. Now all I have left is Muskies and then I'll work to improve my PBs for Walleye and Pike. Actually, guess I want to some day try for trout and catfish too.
