Saturday before Easter fishing! Went with 2 buddies, we caught 48 fish between the 3 of us…it was an absolute blast! Here are a few of them!

Cold morning in NC but the fish were biting! Landed 11 bass, couple of the better ones here! Had an absolute blast!

Earlier today on our walk with the pups we found a weedless Ned jighead complete with pumpkinseed and chartreuse tip worm. Figured we'd try it out as a way of thanking the feesh gods and our prayers were answered. Had to dodge a thunderstorm or two.

Broke free of the grind early this morning to apply some learning with some new gear. Even with 30% fish activity, the fishing from the bank was great. First fish of the morning was caught with a small swim jig in sexy shad color with a white chunk trailer. But the underspin with Keitech swimmer in bluegill was where it was at! 👍🏼 #2020BassOff

I couldn't coax my son out of bed this morning for an 0500 sighting of the ISS. So, I took advantage of the morning and tried something different during a surge in fish activity. I used a 4.5in Keitech Swing Impact in Bluegill Flash on a Mustad 3/0 Power Lock Plus hook with a spring keeper and 1/8oz weight. The activity was all around me EXCEPT where I was standing. What finally worked was casting outside of the docked pontoon to my far left. But the trick is to under shoot so you cast right over the pontoon so the lure disappears behind it and your line hangs precariously over the starboard bow. THAT'S when the bass will strike. It's also the only way to get life to slow down to super slow-mo' as you hear the splashing echoing from across the lake while you struggle to free your line cussing and praying to his Greatness, Poseidon of the Deep your line doesn't cut on something remotely dull. Good times! I rushed to the dock the whole while trying to keep tension on the line. Right as i reached the end of the doc i suddenly felt the line go slack. I thought the worst and pictured a bass swimming the lake the rest of the summer with a Keitech swim bait hanging out his mouth. Well, Poseidon must've loved the incense I was burning because all of a sudden I saw the line go right and come tight as it pulled away. That was all I needed to land that one. WHEW! On the last cast of the morning I didn't even feel the strike. What a felt instead was a heavy line. That's when I recalled the wisdom I gleaned from the YouTubes just the night before about precisely this thing! "SET THE HOOK!" As I reeled him in delighted the investment my free bass fishing education was finally paying off I made a critical tactical error. At one point as I brought the rod to vertical I didnt reel the slack sufficiently and felt the line go dreadfully limp. In that instant life, again, went into super slow-mo as the catch broke the surface of the water like Shamu at Sea World. I'm talking clear out and above the surface. All I needed was a ring set on fire for it to jump through. Instead, as I gazed with mouth wide open at the mighty specimen, it gave me two deuces with its fins before crashing back in and spitting the lure right out. "EFF ME!" None of my subsequent "last casts" produced anything more than tears. Fish on! #2020BassOff #fishtale #fishstory
