New River

Well NC shutdown Speckled Trout Fishing in NC. This happened back in 2018 too due to cold weather. You can fish for them you just keep any which is fine by me because 95% I release them anyways. I think they made the right choice because if these Specks get cold stun they will die. What’s your thoughts did the NCDMF get it right?

In Michigan I targeted Walleye, Pike, and Muskie. After I retired from the USMC my family decided to stay in NC. I fish at least 5 days a week with weather permitting. I target all species of fish on the coast but I love catching Speckled Trout. RedFish, Flounder and Spanish. Last Oct-Dec almost every session was like this. We were slaying the Speckled Trout. This year between Oct-Dec I only had 3 days like this. This year it’s been allot colder in NC and rivers have been icy. 2025 is the coldest winter since 2018. Fishing in Jan and February has been tough sledding.

A few years ago Jeff caught his PB, he joined the Dirty 30 club. He sent me this video and said get out here. I met him out on the creek and I didn’t even get a bite, go figure 😂

A look back at 2024, this year was one of best years I’ve had in fishing in a while. Speckled Trout was one of best I seen in at last a decade. I want to thank all the anglers encouragement, comments and seeing everybody’s beautiful fish. I hope everyone has a great year in 2025 on the water. 🎣Tight Lines🎣

Happy Throwback Thumpday, I caught this 🐊 Speckled Trout last April on a Z-Man Scented Jerk ShadZ on the Smoky Shad color. The Smoky Shad color is one of go to colors for Specks. 🎣Tight Lines🎣
