Cooking all the crappies I caught yesterday from Phalen lake. Fry crappie filet today with fries is so good.

This guy try to catch a catfish today with medium sucker on a slip sinker rig, but ended up catching this spiny softshell turtle. Huge spiny softshell turtle here at phalen lake. We safely released back into the water.

I caught over 20 crappies today with the biggest one being 8 inches. They all hid in the sparse weeds about 5-7ft deep. I fish with gulp smelt 1" minnow and crappies nibbles on a size 10 red octopus hook weightless with 4lb flouro on my ultralight rod. The key was to sink it naturally to bottom and jig it about a foot and sink it again. All these crappies average around 6 inches. Some of these crappies got bit by pike or muskie as you can see in some pictures. I kept 20 crappies both mine and my brother's limit for a fish fry tomorrow.

It bit the crappie nibbles. Always catch these perch near the bottom.
